| STAR TREK
Stars: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood. Director JJ Abrams (Lost, Mission Impossible 3) delivers an awesome re-boot of the fading Trek franchise with absolute perfect casting - with a thoroughly enjoyable and highly entertaining film! Top Notch! (10/10) AVATAR Stars: Sam Worthington, Sigorney Weaver, Zoe Saldana. Directed by James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator, The Abyss, Titantic) sets the bar high with the most in-your-face CGI movie event ever, a wonderous looking film that has the whole world talking. Storywise, it's a little lame but Worthington again - delivers a great performance. (8/10) TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN Stars: Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox. The battle to save the universe returns – in a bigger, in-your-face, over the top sequel to follow the first incarnation with plenty of action between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Awesome! (8/10) TERMINATOR SALVATION Stars: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Hellena Bonam Carter. The fourth film in the TERMINATOR franchise delivers a storyline in the future with an adult John Connor and friends fighting Skynet. Action a plenty with numerous Terminators – including a newcomer who saves the day! Personally, I reckon MCG got the casting wrong - Worthington should of been John Connor?! (8/10) ICE AGE 3: RISE OF THE DINOSAURS Stars:Ray Ramano, John Leguizamo, Dennis Leary. More insane madness with Manny, Sid, Diego and Scrat – and others returning with their third outing and just as before - you'll laugh your head off with their colourful antics! (9/10) X MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Stars: Hugh Jackson, Liev Schreberer, Ryan Renolds. A fast paced, action packed excursion into the world of Wolverine with the fourth film in the X MEN series serving up a good film that delivers some very cool moments! (9/10) DRAG ME TO HELL Stars: Alison Lohman, Justin Long. Legend director, Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Xena, Spider Man) returns to his roots - with a gritty, funny and at times, 'old school' styled horror that delivers a quite tasty enjoyable film! (9/10) G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF THE COBRA Stars:Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller. The action never stops in this seriously, over-the-top movie with more gagets than a James Bond fire sale but doesn't detract from a very stimulating, enjoyable and fun flick! (8/10) DISTRICT 9 Stars: Shaito Copley, Jason Cope. Lord Of The Rings director - Peter Jackson backs debut director, Neill Blomkamp with his sci-fi film that has a realistic world that works – having a similar theme to 80's TV show, V. (8/10) THE HANGOVER Stars: Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Heather Graham. Story of a boys weekend away in Las Vegas - that goes terribly wrong on many levels with countless near catstrophies and numerous hilarious calamaties. A good little flick! (8/10) HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon. Returning for the sixth film, the hogwalts favorite kids are growing up and this film is definitely the weakiest in the franchise so far with a rather lame and slow, often boring outing! (6/10) NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 Stars: Ben Stiller, Robin Williams. More Mayhem in the museum with Stllier and Williams hamming it up, as only they can with a likeable romp that will put a smile on your face – maybe?! (7/10) PUBLIC ENEMIES Stars: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale This Michael Mann (Heat) directed movie is a down 'n dirty ganstar flick with plenty to like with very good performances by both leading men, even if Bale is his usual 'wooden' self with the film unfortunately, dragging a bit due to it's length! (7/10) 2012 Stars: John Cusack , Danny Glover, Woody Harrelson. While there are some cool CGI moments with death and destruction, this film is the weakest by director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, Gozilla) with too much time with the heroes and not nearly enough mayhem! (6/10) FUNNY PEOPLE Stars: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan, Eric Banna Definitely doesn't live up to the expectations - considering the people involved, this should have been a riot - instead it's one of the turkeys of the year! Eric Banna shows up 15 minutes from the end – what a dud! (2/10) INGLORIOUS BASTERDS Stars: Brad Pitt, Christopher Waltz. Quinten Taritino delivers a film that all the right stuff - to appreciate his genius – all over again with an excellent cast and great story telling, full of bravdo and black humour! Easily one of the year's best! (9/10) FAMILY GUY – SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHIN DARK SIDE Stars: Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green. Following up their hilarious 'Blue Harvest' – the Griffins again deliver a side splitting rendtion of The Empire Strikes Back with the same outcome – simply wonderful entertainment! (9/10) THE TAKING OF PELAM 123 Stars: John Travolta, Denzil Washington This high octaine contempory rendition, is actually the third adapation of this film/story and while both Travolta and Washington give great performances – the original 1974 version is still the best! (7/10) RAMBO Stars: Slyvester Stallone, Julie Benz. Good old Sly delivers an 'old school' styled film which is the meatiest and best RAMBO film yet - with more blood and guts than ever before with a good supporting cast including Benz (Dexter) looking as cute as ever! Can't wait for Sly's next film, 'The Expendables' - later in 2010! (8/10) |
| NEW MOVIES FOR 2010
Seems Hollywood is running out of ideas or they're afraid to try some new writers with new ideas - with the majority of movies set for release in 2010 being either remakes and reboots of previous films! CLASH OF THE TITANS Stars: Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fines, Gemma Arterton. Remake of the 1981 movie of the same name - based around the Greek myth between Perseus and Gorgon. This time around, we'll get CGI rather than stop-motion animation and hopefuly, a bigger and better production with a strong cast including new Aussie star Worthington – in the title role! WALL STREET 2 Stars: Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin. Douglas reprises his role as Gordon Gekko – the smooth talking, crooked wall Street banker who has served his jail time and is back in business – will he make the same mistakes again and will there be a 'cameo' by Charlie Sheen? THE EXPENDABLES Stars: Slyvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Eric Roberts. Old school styled mercenary movie led by Stallone - with cameos from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger and numerous others including, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke and Randy Couture – a bad boys reek revenge film which should provide plenty of meat and potatoes – expect violence galore! PREDATORS Stars: Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo. After the poorly funded and critically panned AVP films - FOX has decided to reboot or revamp the PREDATOR franchise. A group of mercenaries are captured on Earth and transported to the PREDATOR home world, to become the 'hunted' for sport. Great supporting cast including, Danny 'Machette' Trejo – with new comer director, Nimrod Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez onboard – this could be a great outcome? Here's hoping! THE THING (Thing 2) Stars: Joel Edgerton, A prequel to the 1980's 'classic' directed by John Carpenter that starred Kurt Russell – where we encounter an alien species that's woken up after crashing into Antartica by members of a Norweigan expedition. The moody monster is less than impressed and wreaks havoc among the humans with dire consequences. THE RUNAWAYS Stars: Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning. A bio film about the mid 70's – teenage all girl band from Los Angeles, who rocked hard, partied hard and were 'infamous' - for a couple of years that featured, Joan Jett and Lita Ford – who both made names for themselves in later years. Could be interesting? ROBIN HOOD Stars: Russel Crowe, Cate Blanchett. Directed by Ridley Scott (Alien/Blade Runner/Black Hawk Down/Gladiator) this period piece should be a gut busting, blood curdling, romantic story with much bravado and should be a first rate adaptation by the 'legend' director. A L I E N 5 Stars: TBA Still in pre production – Ridley Scott is set to return to reboot the Alien franchise with a prequel to his 1979 'classic' with the story - set 30 years prior to the original and centered around the mysterious Space Jockey – from the first film. Hopefully, Sigourney Weaver – will not be involved and this film will be a geniune good production?! Listed below are some of the films set for release in 2010/2011: IRON MAN 2, TOY STORY 3, SHREK 4 EVER AFTER, THE A-TEAM, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, LITTLE FOCKERS, DEATH AT A FUNERAL, THE GREEN HORNET, ALIEN 5, JAWS, TRON, TOTAL RECALL, CONAN ..... |
